Former Derby Committee Donates $22K Finishing Ultrasound Campaign

The dormant Chapleau Northern Pike Ice Fishing Derby committee has made a final, generous donation with its remaining funds. Chairman Bill Groves and Committee Members Emily Taylor, Roger Perreault, Elizabeth (Pit) Michaud, and Michael Levesque decided in early October to donate a full $22,371.54 towards the Ultrasound Campaign.

This donation has helped the campaign for better ultrasounds conclude nearly three months early. People in Chapleau and surrounding communities will benefit from having the latest ultrasound technology available for diagnosis and pregnancy check-ups.

"This is the largest donation of the Ultrasound Campaign, and we thank everyone involved in the former fish derby for this substantial investment in local health care. More than 800 ultrasounds are performed annually in Chapleau, and now everyone can benefit from new technology and higher quality images" said Gail Bignucolo, former CEO of Services de santé de Chapleau Health Services.

Since the Ultrasound Campaign needed less than $6,000 before this donation, information on how the remainder of the donation is used will be announced in the coming months. As always, the focus will be on improving local health care and finding ways to serve our community better.
