Q. How long have you been working for SSCHS?

A. Since 2011.

Q. Can you describe what a typical work day is like for you?

A. It can vary so much. It really depends which floor you're working on. I'm currently working the acute floor cleaning patient rooms and the emerge department where I encounter all kinds of scenarios. But working in acute is temporary and it varies from my regular position. Normally, in my floater position, I move all around the building, cleaning all the hallways, staff washrooms, public washrooms, the sitting area, and long-term care. The standards are the same for cleaning no matter where you are.

Q. Who do you interact with the most at work?

A. In the acute position, it's a toss up between nursing and the patients.

Q. How would your co-workers describe you?

A. I'm hoping they would say I'm a hard worker, dedicated, and reliable.

Q. What's the best part about your job and working for SSCHS?

A. The best part about my job is that I feel like I'm making a difference. I feel like I've accomplished something. That's my contribution to the hospital. All the rooms are clean so I feel good. About working for SSCHS, it would just be my co-workers, the team in general. I enjoy them.

Q. What is one part of your job that might surprise people?

A. That it can be physically demanding. There haven't been as many changes with COVID as people might think because we're always supposed to take 100% precautions regardless of what's going on.

Q. What made you decide to get into this field of work?

A. I just saw the posting and the money was appealing compared to what I was doing at the time.

Q. What are some of your interests outside of work?

A. I enjoy watching good movies, going for walks, working out - that's it aside from work and regular house cleaning!
