Activation

Activation is based on a philosophy for the promotion, enhancement and maintenance of the social, emotional, psychological and physical needs of the older adult living in a Long Term Care Facility.

Our responsibility in the Activation Department is to support the goals of each individual in achieving the quality of life he or she aspires to. We identify their key quality of life issues and then use the best knowledge and skills available to address those issues. We believe that every individual is unique and best understood from a holistic perspective, taking in consideration the individual's physical, mental, sociocultural and spiritual self.

We must offer a diversified activity program geared to our Residents' needs, abilities and cognitive levels. Our activity program meets the needs of not only the alert Resident, but the senile, the confused, the Alzheimer's victim and the depressed.

Meetings

The Activation Department holds monthly Residents' Council meetings. This allows Residents to discuss any issues and concerns they may have. The Residents' Council also serves to safeguard the rights of the Residents and to promote an appropriate quality of life within the home. It encourages all Residents to have a voice in their daily lives and to express their concerns as Residents of the home. It gives the Resident an opportunity to be involved in decisions that may affect their care and life in their home. The Residents' Council also helps Residents communicate with one another, with staff and administration in a strong, positive and continuing way.

Family Council meetings will also be offered during the year. The main purpose of a Family Council is to improve the quality of life of Residents and to give families a voice in decisions that affect them and their loved ones in the home. We are presently looking for family members to sit on the Family Council committee. If you are interested, please contact the Activation Department.
