Diagnostic Imaging Department

The Services de santé de Chapleau Health Services (SSCHS) Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Department is modern and efficient and offers 24-hour radiography and ultrasound services. The DI Department is a member of the NORad group, which encompasses 14 remote district sites, all partnered with the main hub Timmins and District Hospital (TADH). These sites all use digital radiography technology and high speed networks to move diagnostic images and interpretations between district hospitals and TADH.

This technology is made possible by the discovery of Digital Radiography (DR), and PACS (Picture Archive and Communication System), the biggest innovations in the history of diagnostic imaging. It opens the door to fast, accurate, and secure transmission of images over data networks. Images and reports can be transmitted to referring physicians, radiologists, and emergency departments allowing for image analysis and consultation among medical professionals across the region in a timely fashion. It also allows for a great improvement in patient care across a vast geographical area.

In order to address patient mobility and accessibility issues and improve quality imaging, the SSCHS DI Department has a state-of-the-art X-ray unit, which has been upgraded with wireless technology. The system offers impeccable image quality for all types of X-ray exams and an elevating table for quick and easy patient positioning. In 2016, a modern state-of-the-art ultrasound unit was purchased to replace the aging 2009 unit, allowing our hospital to stay abreast of the latest in technological advances.
